This is my 15 gallon barrel thing I bought at Lowe's last year. After we drilled some holes in the bottom, we grew more basil than we knew what to do with. (I ended up drying it, but I should have made pesto!)

Walking around the nursery, I made my way over to the vegetable/herb section. I saw broccoli, which I really wanted to get, but I don't have anywhere to put it right now. So I walked past it to the lettuce. I got three varieties: red something (I didn't get the name of it!), romaine, and spinach. For herbs, I picked sage, salem rosemary, and sweet basil.

I had to break up the clumps and pull out the roots from the old basil, but it was pretty quick work to get these guys in here. I didn't know whether or not I wanted to mix the lettuces up or keep them separate. I ended up doing it this way, because my husband only eats spinach, and I realized it would be easier for him to just be able to grab some if it were all together.

Here it is in it's final home! This is our 'front porch' which is really just a hunk of concrete in front of our door. It is covered, though, so they won't get too crispy in the sun! If the rosemary gets too big, which I think it will, I'll have to replant it. The rest should do fine, though.
